Eloy Márquez, Senior Energy Advisor at ONTIER, just released an article at Spanish magazine Cinco Días in which he goes over the risks associated to the projects awarded in the latest Spanish energy auctions.
The latest renewable energy projects awarded at the energy auctions held in Spain, will have to be operating by the end of 2020. This is a very short time frame that implies risks, as only a few of the awarded projects are showing a reasonable development stage to meet those auction goals, due to circumstances that Márquez summarises in this article.
What we find particularly shocking in this scenario is the monetary sum presented by the auction projects as bank guarantees, a monetary sum that could be liquidated if they do not comply with the established goals. 'At the global level, there are currently more than 300 million euros in guarantees provided for projects that are unable to meet auction deadlines' Márquez notes.
